25 million displaced by Bangladeshi floods
Heavy monsoon rains have caused floods all across Northern India and Bangladesh. Some say they are the worst monsoon floods in living memory.

In Bangladesh, 41 out of 64 districts are under water, official sources have put the figure of displaced people at 25 million.

Drinking water, food and shelter are scarce and the World Health Organisation predicts that 30 million people will be at risk of waterborne diseases.

in Bangladesh
Our Bangladeshi weavers’ looms are under water, dirty water is then causing health problems and because roads are impassable, they’ve not been able to deliver orders or get supplies.

Production has halted entirely in some places, as workers have had to return to their home towns to help their families who have been seriously hit by the floods.

People Tree’s NGO in Japan, Global Village, has just sent a donation for immediate relief. Some of this has gone to purchase relief parcels for stricken families, these will be distributed by the National Garment Workers Federation, (one of People Tree’s partners).

Action Aid Bag £5 ActionAid are currently asking ‘Who Pays the real cost of supermarket price wars and their low cost clothing lines?’

The charity found women working in Bangladeshi garment factories that supply UK supermarkets are being paid just five pence per hour. ActionAid is calling for urgent government action.

We’ve shown our support for the campaign by producing an exclusive 100% organic, Fair Trade shopping bag to help promote the Who Pays? message.

Buy the bag now at Action Aid.
